HISTORY
OF THE THORNBURY THEATRE
Opened as
the New Thornbury Theatre on the 1st August 1926. It was independently
operated
and this continued
until 1931 when it was taken over by Hoyts. It was then re-modeled
and became
one of their sumptuous chain of Regent Theatres in 1932.

It closed
as a theatre on 24th June 1967 and was converted into two ballrooms
and until December 2008
operated as a Reception Centre.
Now, in recognition of it’s historic past, this grand old venue’s
original majestic ambience has been revived and renamed The Thornbury
Theatre. If you have
any historic images or documents regarding The Thornbury Theatre we
would love to hear from you.
